40,000 Digi XBee Connected Meters Save Energy for CAS Customers

"Digi XBee modules were incorporated into our products because they are reliable and easy to test and use. The engineering team had to take very few steps to get a ZigBee network setup and working with very reliable operation"

Domingos Iorio, CAS production director

CAS Tecnologia is a leading global solutions provider for the energy industry, serving more than 200 customers in Brazil, Latin America and Europe. Headquartered in Brazil, CAS Tecnologia (CAS) provides solutions for 20 of the country’s 26 largest utilities.

Business Problem

CAS solves critical problems for its clients contributing to greater efficiency in corporate processes, governance and sustainability. With a commitment to commercial and technical quality in all of its projects, CAS participates in solutions for both businesses and society.

As an energy solutions provider, CAS clients needed a way to control and monitor performance of their meters, which are widely distributed. Remote monitoring also helps utility providers prevent theft and monitor changes such as unusual peaks in use and consumption.

Solution

To add this necessary layer of connectivity and access, CAS added a communication module to each of the electric meters and selected Digi XBee®-PRO ZigBee modules to provide reliable wireless connectivity.css-inline-cas.png

XBee’s small form factor, high quality and reliability made it an easy choice to assist in the remote management, monitoring, automatic control system and remote supervision for equipment.

“XBee modules were incorporated into our products because they are reliable and easy to test and use. The engineering team had to take very few steps to get a ZigBee network setup and working with very reliable operation,” said Domingos Iorio, CAS production director.

Results

The CAS Tecnologia communication module, with the XBee included, helps CAS identify and supply accurate data on fraud and energy losses, helping customers increase efficiencies and reduce costs.

"Today, more than 40,000 products have been produced with the XBee modules and have been delivered to Brazilian utilities. Low voltage consumers are part of an expansion in the Brazilian market,” Iorio added.
