Firmware Update Process for Telit HE910-D

This document will outline the steps required to upgrade the firmware of a Telit cellular module in a Digi TransPort® router.
Two methods are available : Over-The-Air (OTA) or Manual. Both mehods will be described in this article.

This article assumes that the router is running firmware version 6.1.3.x or newer .

This article only applies to the following cellular module:

Telit HE910-D

To identify which cellular module your device is using, look at the part number of your device:

WRxx-U9 is a Telit HE910-D

Please note:  Upgrading the cellular router will cause the unit to reboot a few times and disconnect.
Do not reboot or remove the power from the unit during the update process to prevent any damage to the module

Method 1: Over-the-Air (OTA)
This method assumes the router has an internet connection.

Open a CLI session (Telnet or SSH) to the router (this can also be performed via the GUI using "Execute a command") and issue the following command which will download the firmware and upgrade it (this process will take at least 5 minutes or more depending on the speed of the internet connection.
Once again: Do not reboot or remove the power from the unit during the update process to prevent any damage to the module
carrier all -ftp
The following will appear while it is downloading, with a percentage:
Waiting to download...
44%

After a while the download will complete:
Download Completed.

OK
Wait a few minutes and look in the logs (either via the GUI: Management-Event Log or via cli : type eventlog.txt) and look for the following line:

Telit FW update completed: Success,1

The firmware update process is now complete.

Method 2: Manual

Once the cellular module has been identified (refore to the top of this page), download the he910d.bin firmware file from the Digi web site and save them on your computer.

http://ftp1.digi.com/support/firmware/transport/radio_module_firmware/he910d/

Using S/FTP, upload both of the files to the root directory of the router.
Once both files are uploaded, issue the following command to start the update process:
carrier all
Wait a few minutes and look in the logs (either via the GUI: Management-Event Log or via cli : type eventlog.txt) and look for the following line:
Telit FW update completed: Success,1

The firmware update process is now complete.
