The Latest Digi Software Solutions for DAL OS 24.6 Firmware and Digi Remote Manager

In a world where we expect our machines, systems and devices to be intelligent, software is king. It drives the capabilities of our devices, supports the insights required by network managers, business decision makers and service personnel. It helps us to monitor our sensitive data, alert us of breaches and intrusions, and act on our behalf to launch and automate processes and even shut down systems when something has gone awry.

Digi strives to be at the cutting edge with leading software solutions that achieve these goals and more — with regularly scheduled firmware updates for our networking solutions to enable new features and continually enhance the security and functionality of your Digi cellular routers, servers, and infrastructure management systems.

We are excited to announce that we have added several great new features to Digi Remote Manager® and  DAL OS version 24.6.17.50.  We invite you to take a minute and walk through the most important highlights of our software’s latest additions and changes below. We'll start with some overview information for the uninitiated and then share what's new!

What Are DAL OS and Digi RM?

DAL OS is fully integrated with Digi Remote Manager (Digi RM), our cloud-based remote configuration and management tool, and together these key software offerings enable those who use and manage Digi solutions to gain visibility and seamless access to the full value of their devices — wherever they are deployed.

Quels appareils Digi supportent DAL OS ?

Digi dispose d'une liste importante et croissante de dispositifs basés sur le système d'exploitation DAL - notamment des routeurs, des serveurs de console, des dispositifs de gestion USB et d'autres produits de gestion d'infrastructure :

Enhanced Visibility of Your Device Details in Digi Remote Manager

The Device Details page has received a complete face-lift, with new streamlined card-style grouping of information to provide a better at-a-glance view of your Digi device.  Some new insights have also been brought to this page, including:

  • Speed Test card to show the results of the most recent Ookla speed test ran by the device
  • Cellular connection status and signal quality

Visual indication of the physical link status of each Ethernet port on the device.

Streamline API Interactions with API Key-based Authentication

Digi Remote Manager’s best-in-class API service just got easier to use by allowing users to easily authenticate their automated API interactions with an API key (aka token-based authentication) instead of requiring Duo or password-based authentication.  API keys can be managed by your Digi account administrator under the Accounts page in Digi Remote Manager.

Manage Alert Notifications with Email Lists

Setting up notifications to multiple recipient email addresses just got hit with the “easy” button.  Previously, each email address that you wanted to sent an alert notification to required its own alert profile.  Now the same alert profile can accept multiple recipient email addresses.

Simplify Setup of Wireguard Client Connections with Built-in Tools

WireGuard is a simple, fast, lean, and modern VPN that utilizes secure and trusted cryptography.  WireGuard operates at the network layer to provide communication between devices over a public network. It encrypts and encapsulates traffic to protect information.  When operating in server mode, the Digi router now includes built-in tools in the Admin CLI for quickly generating the list of settings that are required to configure on a client Wireguard device that is connecting to the Digi device.

Easily Stage Your Digi IX10 and IX15 Devices without a Cellular Connection

IX10 and IX15 devices have a single Ethernet port that is setup as a LAN DHCP server by default.  This makes initial local connectivity to the IX10 simple, but poses a challenge if you need to quickly get the IX-series device online without a cellular LTE connection, such as in the case of when you need to pre-stage hundreds or thousands of the devices before shipping them out onsite.  The new 24.6 firmware includes a new default Hybrid mode on the IX10 and IX15 device’s Ethernet port, so it can act as both a WAN DHCP client and LAN DHCP server, to provide seamless connectivity in whatever setup you are using to initially setup and configure the Digi device.

Digi Remote Manager - Interface type

This Hybrid mode is also listed in the Favorites section of simplified configuration settings for the IX10 and IX15 devices in Digi Remote Manager, thereby allowing you to easily update the Ethernet port configuration settings once the device is online in Digi Remote Manager.

Faster Initial Connectivity with 5G and LTE Cellular Modems

Digi is a leader in optimizing cellular connectivity, and has been since the early days of 3G.  This is no different with the new innovations included in 5G networks throughout the world.  With those 5G innovations along with the deprecations of 3G networks globally, Digi has updated several components with managing cellular connections in Digi routers to optimize the cellular connectivity for the carrier capabilities of today.  This includes an optimized initial registration and connection with the cellular network, reducing the initial time to connect by over 1 minute!  This also allows our DAL OS to leverage capabilities of these new 5G and LTE radios such as built-in connection backoff algorithms, combining that with a refined APN fallback list & APN selection setting to provide world class connectivity that can only be found in Digi routers.

Automatically Filter Your Bluetooth Scanner Results

The Digi TX54 router includes the ability to scan for nearby Bluetooth devices and track those devices within Digi Remote Manager or an external server.  These Bluetooth scanner results can now be further refined based on multiple filters, including:

  • Whether the Bluetooth device is moving or static
  • The MAC address OUI vendor prefix
  • RSSI signal level threshold of the Bluetooth device in relation to the Digi TX54 router.

Improved Monitoring of WAN Bonding Status and System Watchdog

Insights on the performance and behavior of your Digi device is essential for guaranteeing the best performance of your site and awareness of any changes to your service assurance.  To that extent, Digi updated the DAL OS to report additional metrics on the Digi router’s WAN Bonding status and its advanced system watchdog service, which can be found locally in the web UI or Admin CLI; these metrics and insights are brought more to light and provide greater value through our Digi Remote Manager portal where users can review and generate reports on these metric insights on their entire fleet of Digi devices.
